About PL.US

End of Institution Centric

I have not written publicly much about my professional ideas, research and projects.  My only audience tends to be clients.  I have plans to change this.  I will add posts about my work under the banner PL.US.

PL.US is an acronym for Public Leadership in the U.S.  The focus of my professional work is on helping people leaders understand our changing society and how to activate citizens to take action.

We are moving from an institution-centric to a citizen-centric society.  In the last century, we conformed our lives to the needs of institutions – employers, schools, government – because the way we got things done was through institutions.  That’s all changing.  The tools now exist that enable people to self-organize without the same type of reliance on formal institutions.

The shift from an institution to citizen-centric society has many implications for public leaders.   The focus of public leaders’ attention also must shift:  Away from deciding and doing things for people toward supporting people to decide and do things for themselves.

I am both a student of the changes in society as well as an advisor to people in public leadership positions.  I look forward to sharing what I’m learning in my studies and work.
