My Logo

My logo is a symbol of new adventures, learning and fun.
It was designed by my daughter Emma. Emma went through a “graphics design” phase of life at about the same time I began my Snapshots blog. She designed all kinds of logos and greeting cards. She would create cards complete with company logo on the back whenever she had free time. She still draws when I read to her at night but now her design interest is clothes.
I was trying to figure out how to be a better and more creative writer. She was trying to figure out how to apply her artistic instincts into a form that surrounds us in modern life – a brand.
The JohnCr8on logo was originally conceived on the beaches of Los Cabos, Mexico. The waves in Los Cabos were mostly too rough for young children to swim. So, Emma turned the sands just above the waves into her own personal “dry erase board” – or in this case wet erase. She spent a couple hours each day etching in the sand. She called me over one afternoon to show me her work.
“This is your new logo,” Emma said, pointing to the “C” with a few strands of hair and sunglasses drawn in the sand (the sunglasses I understand; the minimal hair… what’s she trying to say). I didn’t know I had an old logo but I thought this one looked cool.
When we got home, I asked Emma to turn her logo into something I could use on Twitter and WordPress. She used “KU colors” to give the logo a bit more flair.
A few people have mentioned to me that a hand drawn logo is not professional enough for this site. It doesn’t convey a serious enough tone. It’s the first time I’ve been accused of not being serious.
But, I’ve decided to stick with the logo. Not just because it was created by my daughter. I like it because of what it represents: new adventures, creativity, learning and fun.
Emma and I are both exploring. This logo is emblematic of our adventures.
